With the innovative use of materials and their Central London location, these timber-clad signs have proved to be an instant hit with the local community. The use of a strong identity and clear mapping gives an excellent visual performance from the signs designed by Portland Design.
Structurally the signage has a variety of materials all pre-tested for suitability and capability to withstand the requirements of a city centre location with a vibrant daytime and evening café culture.
With the wayfinding signage standing on the edge of the busy canal route the positioning of the signage within the footpath area was critical to ensure the maximum pedestrian and cycle flow was achievable whilst also maintaining good use of the mapping facilities by users.
Artificial planning within the body of the signs has created a unique softer aspect to the structures, more local and talkative rather than authoritarian, entirely befitting of the Paddington Central community and environment.
